Perpetrators of War Crimes Should be Imprisoned, Not Manning
WASHINGTON (VOR) – The trial of Pfc. Bradley Manning is not over yet, but the army private has been convicted of 19 charges that could lead to more than 130 years in prison. Despite his charges, he was acquitted of the most serious charge of aiding and abetting the enemy.
This has led to a national debate about what this result means for whistleblowers and would-be leakers of evidence of military malfeasance, in this case possibly war crimes.
Host Carmen Russell-Sluchansky talked with Debra Sweet, director of The World Can't Wait, to discuss the case and its implications.
This program was broadcast on July 31, 2013.
