World Can't Wait | March 17, 2015

Four days of anti-war events in Washington, D.C., and actions from San Francisco to New York City will protest the 2003 “shock & awe” U.S. invasion of Iraq.

List of participating organizations. Full schedule of events.

A rally and march will begin at the White House at noon on Saturday, March 21; a concert on March 18; a tour of “war-maker: sites on March 19; and teach-ins on March 19/20 will bring activists from around the country decrying the link between targeted killing and the Black Lives Matter movement; what the response of the anti-war movement should be to ISIS and Islamic jihadism; and the environmental impact of US military aggression.

Cindy Sheehan, an internationally renowned peace and social justice activist whose oldest son Casey was killed in Iraq on April 04, 2004, said, “Spring Rising is intended as an antiwar intervention into the world capital of war-making. The U.S. has spread its military across the globe and is engaged in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and, via drone strikes, in Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia. The U.S. government is provoking Russia in Ukraine and Eastern Europe, pushing for another coup in Venezuela, and expanding its military presence in Asia and Africa.”

“The current problem is NOT that the U.S. finally withdrew military forces from Iraq in 2012, but its illegitimate invasions in 1991 and 2003. The US occupation was conducted in a lawless way, destroying their education, legal, medical, water, sewage, security and electrical systems, and setting the stage for the rise of ISIS. The U.S. military cannot do anything to stop the violence of ISIS; nothing good can come from U.S. bombing. ” said Debra Sweet, Director of World Can't Wait.

Participants in Spring Rising are available for interviews.
