stoppatriarcy0605On Monday with a 5-3 decision in Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt SCOTUS overturned HB2; a Texas law requiring abortion clinics to have surgical facilities and doctors to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. This law was critical to be overturned as it would close the majority of clinics and further eliminate access to abortions in TX. While the fight for abortion access is far from over, the fact that this victory was won and that clinics will stay open is something to truly celebrate.

Sunday night Jesse Williams (Dr. Jackson Avery on Grey's Anatomy) delivered a powerful acceptance speech to the BET's Humanitarian Award.

jessewilliams0605Over the past couple years Williams has participated in various Black Lives Matters protests including in Ferguson after the murder of Michael Brown. Last month he starred in and produced in a BET documentary Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement.The nearly five minute speech powerfully condemned this system. Early on his speech Williams stated, "a system built to divide and impoverish and destroy us cannot stand if we do.
